The department of Philosophy, Lady Keane College, Shillong on the 13th of December 2018, went for a field trip to Mawjymbuin cave situated in Mawsynram village. Mawsynram is known as the wettest place on earth. The trip was escorted by four teachers of the department; three-degree teacher's including the HOD and one teacher from Higher Secondary along with total of eighteen students (6th semester students only). The bus left the college campus at 8:30 am and we reached Mawjymbuin cave at around 12'O clock noon. The journey was almost three hours, 65 kms from Shillong. When we reached the cave, the entry fee was Rs 10 per head. Inside the cave there was a naturally formed ShivaLinga made of calcareous sandstone. Years of weathering, dripping of minerals enriched liquid and deposition of calcium carbonate has given rise to many magnificient stalagmites inside the cave. Not much to see, but the naturally formed ShivaLinga had interested our students, as it had and carries an immense religious significance. We spend around fifteen to twenty minutes inside the cave, took pictures of ShivaLinga, some students were Praying around the Shivling, while others were admiring the beauty and creative formations of nature. After we came out the cave, on the same day we took the students to visit Um kha koi Lake which is in Mawlyngbna village ahead of Mawsynram. Umkhakoi is basically a tourist spot and particularly good adventure for Kayakers. But due to time constraint the students could not experience the Kayaking and explore much about Um kha koi Lake. Students have observed, learned and explored a lot from this trip which will be beneficial for their educational knowledge and purpose as they have experienced outside their day to day activities.
