Drug Awareness Club

The Drug Awareness Club was constituted in 2021 by the institution with all program officers of the various extension services as members of the club with one major challenging objective to look into and help spread awareness on substance abuse within the institution a matter which had crippled the society and the community of lately.

The central aim of this club is to create a drug-free environment within the educational institutions, by raising awareness and preventing substance abuse among youth. The club is striving to foster a supportive, inclusive environment where students can make informed, healthy choices and resist peer pressure related to drugs, alcohol, and tobacco.

The club focus heavily on education about the biological, social, behavioral, and environmental consequences of drug use.

All programme officers of the extension services within the college i.e Youth RedCross, NSS, NCC and Rangers form the members of this Club.

As part of their objectives the club had already conducted an "interactive consultation on drug abuse and its menace" on 13th October 2023 at the college auditorium. The common vision is having a platform for various stakeholders with a mission to work with Government, Non-Government, and other agencies as well as likeminded individuals working for health and carrying out preventive programs by adopting the community-based approach to take up the challenges and problems of Drug/Alcohol abuse & prevention of HIV/AIDS.

Key stakeholders of the session were student participants of various schools. A panel of expertidse from the voluntary health association of Meghalaya (VHAMS), councellor from New Hope De-addiction Center, Shillong, Project Manager of Manbha Foundation NGO and the Councellor from Kripa Foundation. Upon invitation, participants from various localities also joined the College in a wake to find solutions to this arduous issue faced by most youth today. Members of various dorbar shnong include Rangbah Shnong from Mawlai Phudmuri, Mawlai Mawdatbaki, Jaiaw Langsning, Upper Lansonalane, Lower Mawprem, President and General Secretary of the Seng Samla Shnong Mawpat. The Inspector of Police, CID branch and in-charge of Narcotic Cell, Police Department Government of Meghalaya was the chief guest of the event. He also delivered the talk and shared with us the role and matters relating to the illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances and the statistical scenario regarding narcotics and drug abuse which has emerged as a serious problem in Meghalaya, with the number of users increasing by 33 times within the last ten years, according to a recent survey.

Besides, an inter-institution Slogan competition was also conducted, and prizes were awarded to two best slogans.

Recently, on the 7th April 2026, the club in collaboration with the Youth Redcross organized a poster competition on the "detrimental effects of Drugs and Tobacco use on female health and an institutional pledge taking ceremony against tobacco and drug used.
