DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY Estd. 2000
INTRODUCTION
The Department was affiliated to the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) with effect from 1 July 2000 and the Department runs a Three Year B.Sc. (Honours) programme in the subject of Biochemistry at the undergraduate level. The Department is currently being managed by 5 full-time faculty members and the student intake is 20 per semester.From its inception the objective of the department has been to lay a solid foundation for the students and prepare them for participation in future research and development projects. Biochemistry as a subject seeks to describe the structure, organization, and functions of living matter in molecular terms; and as an interdisciplinary science it is closely linked with many disciplines which include chemistry, biophysics, medical research, nutrition, microbiology, physiology, cell biology, and genetics.
