Recent Activities

The rangers took part in an adventurous trekking trip to U Lum Sohpetbneng organized by Rovers, Bharat Scouts and Guides on 27th July 2013 where many scouts, rovers, guides and rangers from all over Meghalaya participated. There they learnt about the story behind U Lum Sohpetbneng. Afterwards, they next headed for a visit to the picturesque SOS village, a home to hundreds of homeless children.

Every year, a number of students are recruited into the ranger family. This year also, an investiture ceremony was conducted in the college premises on 7th August 2013 where 24 new rangers were recruited. Mrs A Dkhar, who was the founding member of rangers unit in Lady Keane College and the present Vice President, Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides, In charge of rangers was present on the occasion along with two members from the headquarters.

It was a moment of pride for our rangers when they represented the Bharat Scouts and Guides as a contingent and took part in the 66th Independence Day Parade held at Polo Grounds on 15th August 2013. Altogether, 21 rangers participated and all the three ranger leaders attended the function. The Chief Guest of the occasion was Dr Mukul Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya. The day before, ie, 14th August 2013 , the rangers attended the camp fire which was organized at the Bharat Scouts and Guides headquarters.

On 22nd August 2013, five rangers attended the North-east Regional Event held at the State headquarters, Bharat Scouts and Guides where participants from all over the north-east attended.

In the month of September, the ranger leader P Nongkhlaw and around 20 of the rangers attended a two-day civil defense programme organized in the college campus. The programme focused on theory sessions as well as practical sessions on first aid and tying of bandages to an injured person.

The rangers also got the opportunity to participate in the Regional Level Disaster Preparedness cum Community Development programme organized by Bharat Scouts and Guides and National headquarters , New Delhi held from 19th Oct- 23rd Oct 2013. Many participants came from different parts of North-east. The programme involved sessions on how to be prepared if a natural disaster like earthquake occurs. They also focus on civil defense and sessions like “Messenger of peace” which helps in improving the over-all personality development of the rangers. Certificates were also distributed at the end of the programme.

The rangers also attended the Rajya Puraskar rally as part of the Bharat Scouts and Guides celebration of the foundation day on 7th November 2013 at the prestigious Governor’s house. On 16th November 2013, some of the rangers attended a function at Secretariat, Shillong for the release of the newsletter and legal services by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

Upcoming

In the month of December,20 of our rangers will take part in trekking to Shillong Peak along with the rovers from Bharat Scouts and Guides organized by Sarva Shikshu Ghar.

The rangers will also be involved in a Gang Show to be held on 21st December 2013 at the state headquarters organized by the Boscorean Scouts, Bharat Scouts and Guides.

Outreach programme

The rangers have rendered their services in many ways. On 20th July 2013, they participated in the Medical Camp organized jointly by Bharat Scouts and Guides, Red Cross and Mawiong Public Health Centre held at the Community Centre in Mawiong. The rangers helped in distributing medical slips and medicines to the patients. Along with them, Roko Cancer which is a charitable trust was also involved in giving awareness and organizing free detection of cancer through its mobile detection camps.
