Department of Botany Estd. 1948
Introduction:
In 1948, under the jurisdiction of Guwahati University, Botany was introduced in the College as an Arts subject. However, in 1959, the then Principal Ms Usha Bhattacharyya started the Science stream and Botany was then included as one of pure the Science subjects. In 1973 the college affiliated itself to the North Eastern Hills University, Meghalaya. The Department has progressed a lot from its humble beginnings. It is now a fully fledged department equipped with modern teaching facilities and fully furnished laboratories. Besides well equipped tissue culture and microbiology laboratories, the Department also has a Botanical Garden, Orchid and Green houses and a Departmental Library. The present faculty members are committed to providing quality education and to continue contributing to corporate life and management of the institution.
