MEDICAL CARE UNIT (MCU)

The world health organization(WHO) defines health as a” state of complete physical, mental and social well being ,not merely the absence of disease or infirmity “(WHO 1947).A college or institution can perform the best, if the three basic facts of health i.e physical ,mental and social well being is taking into  concern. Based on these facts, Lady Keane  College  inaugurated new   Medical care unit or MCU on the 25th July 2013 with an aim to strengthen the educational process by improving the health status and health knowledge of the  students and the faculty of the college.

STATUS OF MEDICAL CARE UNIT

Medical care unit (MCU) is equipped with one bed, one examination bed and two sofa-cum bed incase of emergency.The equipment available in Medical care unit are:

  1. Sphygmomanometer
  2. Stethoscope
  3. Emergency trolley
  4. Finger Pulse oximeter
  5. Resuscitation bag
  6. Sterilizer
  7. Two storey kick basin
  8. Dressing tray include artery forecep, thumb forecep, small bowl
  9. Stretchers
  10. Weighing machine
  11. Height measurement scale
  12. Dressing drum
  13. First aid box
  14. Emergency drugs for treatment of minor ailment etc

OBJECTIVES
The objectives of Medical care unit are:

  1. To provide an immediate an effective medical intervention in case of health problems ,accidents like fire, violence, sport injuries etc and life threatening situations like natural calamities earthquakes, flood etc
  2. Ensure that intervention are prioritized according to the needs of the patient.
  3.  Enpedite  the care, through a systematic assessment keeping in mind the three cardinal rules of first aid i.e safe life ,preserve function and give comfort.
  4. Assess for and report any environmental hazards which acts as a threat to the health status and safety of individuals.
  5. Impart knowledge to the students and the faculty of the colleges regarding common health problems and ways to prevent them.
  6. Make sure the students, teaching and non teaching staff are fit to take part in Gym activities and any sport activities organized by the college.

TIMING
Monday- Saturday : 9:30 am to 3pm except in emergency situation
PROCEDURE
The procedure  carried out in Medical Care unit   are:

  1. Interventions are carried out prioritized according to the type or urgency needs by the clients.
  2. A patient attended in Medical care unit ,has to registered  in the report book which include the name, class, section, identity card number, designation, complaints of the patient, treatment given, remarks and signature of the patient.
  3. For the safety of the students  ,Medical care unit promptly informed  the parents/guardians of any severely ill students.
  4. Medical Care Unit also acts as a referral unit where any case which cannot be handle in the unit is reffered to the nearest hospital prior the concern and permission given by the  Principal of the college.
  5. To take part  in gym activities, the students, teaching and non teaching staff need to certified in the Medical Care Unit.
  6. Medical Care Unit (MCU) attended the sick students in the hostel of the college and make sure they get the right treatment at the right time.

  14. Gymnasium register which include separately for teaching and non-teaching staff , class wise for the students and for the students who are not certified to take part in the gym due to medical health problems.
