Library Profile

Lady College Library was established in 1935 right from the inception of the college. It has a separate building and the area of the Library (in sq mts) is 50x40 ft. The total seating capacity of the Library is 75. Library does have an Advisory committee consisting of a convener and six other members. Its main responsibility is to provide the students and faculty members with a good and functional Library. Library is up-to-date, well-lighted, pleasant, quiet and well-stocked with books that the students and faculty members can use them easily. The collection of books is more than 30,000 and subscribe to National and Foreign Journals, also Local and National newspapers.

The Library purchases books, important journals and other reading materials on the recommendation made by the various departments of the college and suggestions made by fellow lecturers and students. This year also Library purchased 262 new additional books as per the recommendation made the various departments of the college and 2 (two) more journals has been newly subscribed for the Computer Department, namely, (a) Electronics and (b) LINUX.

The Library is computerized and provided with two monitors: one is placed at the counter to serve the needs of the students and the other with the Librarian to monitor. A notice board displays the facilities, timing and rules of the Library. The Internet facility has been provided from September 2002. The facility is open from 10 A. M. to 3 P. M. for the students and the faculty members.

Library is also imparting internship for M.L.I.Sc. NEHU pass out students since 2010. This year also the same internship is going on for NEHU pass out students. In 2010-11 the internship program was for three months and this year it is for one month only. Free internet facility has been provided to the students since last year, i.e from 2011 and continues to be the same. Reprographic facility has also been provided to the students with a nominal charge. CCTV has also installed in the Library in the month of October 2012.

Bar Coding System in the Library has been installed and it is under-process.

 

Future Plan

Library committee plans to buy books especially for the Creative Arts and binding of books particularly for some old books will be done. Committee also plans to subscribe some more new journals particularly for the Computer, Sociology and Bio-Technology Departments. Science books will also be updated. For the interest of the students the committee has decided to have 4 (four) more computers in order to extend the exercise of Internet facility.
